F1 In Schools is a programme from N.A.College designed for young people aged 11 to 19 years old. Through designing, testing, developing and racing a miniature car, participants gain an insight into how a product is developed and manufactured.

The F1 in Schools programme helps to change the perception of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) by creating a fun and exciting learning environment. Young people develop an informed view about careers in manufacturing and engineering.

Participants and their schools also have the opportunity to compete for regional and national prizes.

F1 In Schools STEM Challenge

The F1 In Schools STEM Challenge is a worldwide STEM-based competition involving teams from schools who compete against students from all over the world.

At our purpose-built F1 Manufacturing Hub, schools have access to CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, wind tunnels, smoke tunnels, lathes and our 20m official F1 race track.

Schools have access to all equipment and materials at no charge (subject to availability).

Since we formed our Hub, we have had major success with local schools, with teams from the region reaching the Singapore world finals in 2015 and the world finals in Texas in 2016.

We also have former competitors who reached two world finals and now teach the students in our school engagement programmes.

We now boast the largest regional finals in the whole of the UK, which is held annually at the Nissan Sports and Social Club.

Personally I thought the course was great, for someone that really wanted a career at Nissan. Firstly is was great to meet new colleagues and friends, whom I've kept in touch with even thou they weren't successful, secondly an insight to Nissan itself. Working under ex Nissan supervisors was a real incentive to carry on until the end and more reason to try your best to get the right result, as they spoke professionally of the job in hand, and made it more exciting. They tell you exactly what to expect, what to look forward to and why you should choose Nissan,(for the career). The team building exercises were real fun, and had everyone working together, because that's vital in Nissan. Also working with the skills team was good to, not everyone is up to date on iPads and trusted with iPads for that matter, but helped so much on my application, presentation and preparation ready for every step along the way, and there is a few steps and hurdles to get over along the way, but if you want it that much you don't mind trying your hardest. The work experience was a real test in working relations, you need to trust the man next to you in Nissan and likewise, working under pressure and to targets is a real challenge, but if the teamwork is there then it's half the battle. Thanks for all the help from the skills team after the course was ended, they kept there eyes and ears open for any other positions arising, some that I was unfortunate in getting.
