What are Functional Skills?
NA College’s Functional Skills courses in English and Maths are designed to equip you with essential knowledge, skills and understanding to empower you to operate confidently, effectively and independently in work and everyday life, as well as getting the most out of your education.
Functional skills enable you to:
- Apply knowledge and understanding of everyday life
- Engage competently and confidently with others
- Solve problems in both familiar and unfamiliar situations
- Develop personally and professionally as positive citizens who can actively contribute to society
Originally introduced in September 2010 Functional Skills officially replaced Key skills in October 2012.
Level 1 Functional skills – Equivalent to GCSE Grade 3 and below or E-D Grade (previous GCSE grading)
Level 2 Functional Skills – Equivalent to GCSE Grade 4 and above or C-A* (previous GCSE grading)
