National Women in Engineering Day was set up on 23 June 2020 by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), the day has focused attention on the great opportunities for women in engineering, at a time when it has never been more important to address the engineering skills shortage. By encouraging girls into engineering careers we will not only be increasing diversity and inclusion – a business imperative – but enabling us to fill the substantial future job opportunities that have been predicted in this sector.

Founded in 1919, the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) is a professional, not-for-profit network of women engineers, scientists and technologists offering inspiration, support and professional development. Although the world has changed since a group of women decided to band together to create an organisation to support women in engineering after the First World War, the need is very much still there.

WES works in a number of ways to support women in STEM, to encourage the study and application of engineering, to promote gender equality and diversity in the workplace, and to award excellence and encourage achievement through our awards and grants schemes.

To mark National Women in Engineering Day 2018 (23rd June) we asked some of our female engineers to tell us a little about themselves, their journey, their aspirations and advise to others.

N.A.College is passionate about promoting Women in Engineering, and to celebrate just a few of our very own women in engineering and try to encourage more girls to consider a career in the industry, we asked a few of them to share their journey, achievements, aspirations and advice to others.

The idea behind National Women in Engineering Day is to encourage groups to organise their own events in support of the day, and link them together for maximum impact through the use of the NWED logo, corresponding website, and supporting resources.
