A new job for Chris
34-year old Chris Mahon, from Hebburn, recently completed his Manufacturing SMART Programme at the Building Futures East site in Walker.
Chris is very positive about the training and support that he received from NAC.
“Personally I thought the course was great for someone that really wanted a career at Nissan. First, it was good to meet new colleagues and friends, whom I’ve kept in touch with even though they weren’t successful. Second, it gave an insight to Nissan itself”, says Chris.
“Working under ex-Nissan supervisors was a real incentive to carry on until the end”, he continues, “And more reason to try your best to get the right result, as they spoke professionally of the job in hand, and made it more exciting. They told me exactly what to expect, what to look forward to and why Nissan could offer a good career.”
Chris really enjoyed the team building exercises, which got everyone working together. Good teamwork is vital at Nissan. He also found the training delivered at the Smart Club useful. “Not everyone is up to date on iPads, but it helped greatly with my application, presentation and preparation. There are a few hurdles to get over along the way, but if you want the job that much you don’t mind trying your hardest.”
“The work experience was a real test in working relationships,” comments Chris. “You need to trust the man next to you when you’re on a production line. Working under pressure and meeting targets is a real challenge, but if the teamwork is effective that’s half the battle.”
Chris is now working on the production line at Nissan.
